Totaling 50,000 square feet and located in Alameda, CA, in the Alameda Unified School District, this new elementary school incorporated the use of high-efficient packaged rooftop mechanical units allowing the district to apply for rebates from the local utility company. The use of economizers allows natural cooling to the classrooms in this mild climate without running the compressors and saving money and energy. Due to site conditions causing extensive settlement, close coordination was needed to design the plumbing system in conjunction with a post-tension slab as thick as 16".
